We got to try a few new techniques on this video. Smithsonian Folkways has put out You’ve Been a Friend to Me, a collection of music, much of it unreleased, by Sonya Cohen Cramer. Sonya worked with our dear friend Dick Connette’s band Last Forever; she was the daughter of John Cohen of the New Lost City Ramblers and was the niece of Peggy and Pete Seeger. On this tune, written by Townes Van Zandt, she is backed up by Elizabeth Mitchell and Daniel Littleton of the band Ida. It’s an intimidating resume, and this being the first collection since her untimely passing in 2015, we felt a responsibility to do right by Sonya’s tender performance. It was an honor to work on this. Enjoy!
